Philippines’ Typhoon Tisoy Postpones Several SEA Games

As the intensity of the South East Asian Games builds this December, so does the weather apparently. Heavy rains and strong winds caused by the Typhoon Tisoy has forced a cancellation and postponement of several sporting events yesterday. According to Fox Sports, the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (Phisgoc) has been ordered to prepare and enact a contingency plan due to the major changes that will transpire because of the monsoon season.

When asked about the monsoon contingency plan, Ramon Suzarra, the chief operating officer of the SEA Games said, “This has been placed a long time ago. There’s an operating policy for all the competition and venue managers in case there are typhoons. We have instructed some venues to put down the tents in advance. All competition managers, technical delegates are ready.”

From the 4th to the 6th of December, beach volleyball events will be postponed to a later date, while canoeing, kayaking, and traditional boat racing will be pushing through at the weekend, 6th to 8th of December. The Mai-Waikru event is set from the 4th to 5th of December, but as for windsurfing and sailing, the new dates will be on 5th December, while surfing will be on 3rd December. Skateboarding which was supposed to be held in Tagaytay is also currently postponed.
